يُخَادِعُونَ
wa-mā yukhādiʿūna
“not deceiving anyone except themselves”
Explanation:
This verb appears twice in this verse. In its first occurrence, all ten Readers read it as “yukhādiʿūna”. In the second occurrence, there are two different readings, which have the same root but different forms of the verb. In this context, both forms of the verb indicate the same meaning: the deception that the hypocrites are engaging in towards the Messenger (ﷺ) and the believers [al-Farisi].
